DARK COMPOSER SPEAKS is my weird and wonderful weekly YouTube vlog where I talk about all the random things that’s going on in my life from the current movies I’m scoring to stuff happening on the other side of the planet that really has nothing to do with me at all.

I’ve released 14 episodes already so grab a coffee, pull up a chair and enjoy my inane ramblings.

The Coffee Jelly Hour podcast is still going strong, with 41 episodes under our belt so far. Hosted by myself, Ace, Matt and Seth, the podcast always starts with a brief catch up of what we’ve all been doing / watching / playing / reading (basically, nerdy stuff) before we get into the real meat of the show – the fan fiction. Just imagine a radio play with a script written by an angry, spotty, virgin teen which is performed by a group of guys who don’t really know what’s going on – yes, it’s funny and totally ridiculous.

Go listen to the podcast right now, right here… www.mixcloud.com/CoffeeJellyHour

Ace recently created this amazing piece of #CJ60 (that’s what we like to call the show – thank you Matt Donnelly) artwork below showing your hosts to the left and a selection of fan fiction characters to the right including our most beloved icon, Eric.

CJ60 July 2016

We’ve just released a brand new, 80s-retro-arcade-game inspired music video for the song “Arcade Man”. Check it out below…

So last Saturday saw the cast and crew screening of the Joe McReynolds movie ‘Six Pack Sam’ at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin, TX. I’ve scored the entire soundtrack and it is a very different soundtrack for me because I’ve written all the music using the Korg Gadget app – we made the decision early on to go with Gadget because of its cool synth sounds and also, we wanted to be different.

It was great to have the movie on the big screen in front of a large audience to gauge their reaction. Feedback was brilliant, people loved it. I couldn’t make it all the way to Texas for the screening (although I really did want to be there) so I was lucky enough to have my own private screening the other day and I was totally blown away by the movie.

There’s still some more work to do on ‘Six Pack Sam’ before we take it to film festivals and you all get to see this cool flick, but in the next couple of months it will be complete and it’ll be ready to take its first steps.

Joe commented, “It’s been a crazy last couple of years but it was all worth it to see so many people involved in the making of our hand made independent feature film ‘Six Pack Sam’ back together again enjoying their work on the big screen. I have made some great friends and watched so many people grow and evolve. I can’t wait to polish this piece of work up and premiere it so everyone can see how talented the ‘Six Pack Sam’ family is.”

This awesome short movie by the Untitled Sequence team features my music and was part of the Saint Louis 48 Hour Film Project – yes, this was all made in 48 hours and it’s such a cool, dark and funny short.

It went on to win Best Film of 2016 which means “Cult Classic” will go on to represent Saint Louis against all the other city winners around the world at Filmapalooza 2017.

Congratulations to all involved.

I hope you enjoy it…

My current movie project, the Joe McReynolds’ movie Six Pack Sam, is really taking shape now. Over the next month I will be finishing the soundtrack for it and July will see the very first screening for cast and crew. I’ve got to say that the movie is looking beautiful and I really have high hopes for it – I can’t wait until you can all see it.

For this soundtrack I really wanted to do something different – it needed to sound gritty, menacing and unnerving. I wanted phat synths and heavy beats to create the disturbing audio world of Six Pack Sam so I knew I had to look at different music software. I had already been dabbling with Korg’s amazing iOS app, Gadget, for both my bands (Flesh-Resonance and Captain Creep) so I knew what it was capable off.

So I grabbed a Korg microKEY Air keyboard and starting writing the soundtrack using Gadget. I worked in the studio, on the train, in the garden – literally wherever there was a little bit of space to set up my iPad and keyboard – and the world of Six Pack Sam started taking shape.

Six Pack Sam could well be the very first movie scored exclusively with Korg Gadget. I’m finding Gadget fun and easy to use, and the fact that I can simply score wherever I am is just amazing – I’m no longer shackled to the studio.

And let’s not forget the truly mindblowing sounds Gadget is capable off – it’s packed full of stunning synths that can all be customised and fully automated.

Once the movie is complete, we’ll be releasing the original soundtrack album. Full details will be available here and of course I’ll let you know of new trailers and screenings of Six Pack Sam in the future.
